teaching math

It's been a while since I've posted... a long while! oops!! Been a little busy.... teaching....moving....teaching...moving again..... working on my doctorate! It's time to start back blogging though!

So, this year more big changes are about to happen as I take on my biggest challenge as an educator.... leaving second grade and taking a job teaching 6th grade math! I am excited to start something new and challenging, but I am also full of anxiety--- I literally have no idea what to expect! So many differences between elementary and middle!

One awesome difference has been how much less money I've spent this summer on my classroom. Turns out a lot of middle school teachers don't actually decorate. I've done a little decorating though:

Ok... so not the best pics... it's a start though!

So, now that I'll be in math I have grand plans to have my students embrace the growth mindset this year. One of the other math teachers across the hall found this bulletin board:

Since I am out of bulletin board space... I turned this great idea into a poster! Now, it can be hung anywhere ;)
Click the picture to download.

My school has a poster printer! Whoop whoop.... so I'm gonna print this and hang it after we have our initial growth mindset lessons. I'm also going to shrink it and print it small enough to glue it into interactive notebooks too...There will be no forgetting it!

I've uploaded this freebie to my TPT shop! I hope I will be adding much much more for math teachers this school year!

hello makeovers

In the spirit of distraction, I've been working hard on updating quite a few of my ORIGINAL products. I've takent them from that old Word format (which was miserable to edit!) to an updated Powerpoint format. To celebrate... I'm having a sale:

All products made with vowel teams are on sale! Click on the picture above to go to my store.

Also, did you notice my new and improved blog? I am in love with the design! Thanks to Kassie by Designs by Kassie. I couldn't have worked with anyone easier and FASTER!

Anyway, just wanted to drop a quick note! Have a great night!

Happy Teacher, Happy Learning!

Yay for Teacher Appreciation Week! It always feels good to feel appreciated... it doesn't hurt that today marks 14.5 days remaining in the school year! We started our 20 day countdown last week during SAT 10... there's one way to celebrate testing... lol

Last year I hung balloons from the ceiling and we popped one everyday to get our countdown on... But, this year, I can't hang stuff from my ceiling. (It has kinda been a bummer all year!) I still wanted to countdown with balloons so my team-mate and I decided to hang the balloons in between our classrooms and countdown together.

We are having so much fun doing this-- and the kids love it!

It is hard to keep it interesting at this point in the year, but check out this cute activity we did last week...

We were reading the story "Cool Jobs" in our reading series so we completed job applications about what we wanted to be when we grew up. They were adorable! You can check out this fun stuff from the "Cool Jobs" packet out of my Treasures supplements:

I am still working on finishing up Unit 6 in Treasures. Then I am going to go back and get Unit 1 completed for next year. You can get a deal if you shop this week.

Big sale! Click the sale button to visit my TPT page.

Also, I have 30% off all items on Teacher's Notebook.

Have a happy teacher week!

You might be a bad blogger if...

You might be a bad blogger if...
you almost go a WHOLE month without posting! Especially when that month is December and you actually had some fun stuff to post about!

Like:
Our Merry "Cat"mas Week with Pete and Splat! We has lots of fun with this!

or this:

You might also be a bad blogger if...

you don't actually log on to your blogger account for weeks... yah, that's bad! I have just been so super busy with my kiddos (I mean my actual, biological kids!)

We went to ICE... without the hubs (who had to work!) That was a single-mom experience I NEVER want to have again! If you're a single mom, you know what I'm talking about!!!

Jaydon started back to basketball this month! I don't how it happens, his team seems to get the 8 a.m. games every Saturday!! grrr... I do love watching the games though!

He's the blond in the middle!
He's got the ball!

Also, taking care of these cuties... Look at them before we went to see Santa! (Yes, that was one of those Saturdays where I shamelessly took my kids to work for a few hours before Santa!)

You might be a bad blogger if...

if you didn't tell your friends about New Years sales!

Woo.... glad I am missing this one... because I am telling you now!

blender blends freebie

Look at this cute blender:

Last month, we studied blends (with a focus on ending blends) and in a couple weeks we are going to focus on beginning blends so we will use this blender again soon!! Anyway, we made a big ol' smoothie with our blender. My kids made the fruit they wanted in it and then added a blend to the shape and we taped it on the blender.

Now, when we focus on beginning blends I want to still use our blender. So, I made this little activity:

That is the completed project. Each student will get a blender like this:
 And fruit like this:

They will choose 2 different fruits. Write the blends on one fruit and make the rest of the blend word on the other fruit- like in the completed example above.

This activity is actually part of my newest Treasures packet:

but I just had to share because I cannot wait to do this activity!!! Click below to get your own free copy!! :)
Have a great weekend... only 1 whole day left in my shoe giveaway!! Click here to enter...

september currently

I have noticed that sometimes at "currently" time I have a tendency to misspell currently. I get to typing to fast I don't even notice the error...
anyhoo

Just noticing that font might not have been the best choice for this! Sorry!

My little 3 year old (Addison) is hilarious about this new Taylor Swift song. Nothing can bring a smile to your face like hearing a 3 year old sing all the words and insert commentary. I need to video next time she is singing.. A.DOR.A.BLE!!

I have been keeping my long weekend :) filled with lots of... work!

I mean I thought it was LABOR day right! I am horrible about planning... I am constantly getting distracted with other things on the Internet! Pretty much finished today.

I did take a few minutes of relaxation yesterday. I traded in my monthly massage for a facial. It was marvelous... I think I may be trading in my massage more often!

Last night I did a sewing project all by myself! (Usually when I have some sewing project I take it to my mom for guidance then I do the project at her house, just in case there is a mess up!) This time I did it all by myself.. with a phone consult with my mom :) I made some new curtains for my classroom. I haven't hung them yet, but here is a sneak peak:

I also finished up a packet for Treasures Unit 1, Week 5- Soccer. Check it out here:

Have a fab day off friends!
