Monday Made It #3

Running late with my Monday Made It today... Although it has made for a couple days.

Before I start my MMI.. let me vent... for a moment...

So, this morning I was woken up by some barking dogs. Not my sweet little dog... the 2 huge German Shepard's that live next door. Now, I have nothing against German Shepard's... but when they live next door and bark ALOT, then I've got something against them!

These dogs aren't barking at squirrels or birds or even people... they are barking at nothing... at 5:30 a.m. Yup, that's right, 5:30 a.m. on summer break! It has been going on for a couple of weeks and today I just couldn't take it. I woke up with a sinus infection to top it off, so I was not happy...

Apparently, after barking for 30 minutes straight, my neighbor didn't find it too amusing that I was standing on his porch (in my p.j's). But, what did he expect? I need my sleep... Luckily I am not the only house on the block being disturbed.. So hopefully someone else will step up that this guy might take more seriously.

Until then, pray I get a little more sleep tonight. (Luckily I did get some meds for my sinus infection, so hopefully it won't be affecting me as bad).

So, now let me share my Monday Made It this week:

Link up with fun linky or see more Monday Made It's at 4th Grade Frolics!

I had this old wooden toy box that the kids used to use... but they really don't anymore... so, I took it! I saw an idea on Pinterest for a bench under your Promethean board for kneeling or sitting while students are on the board. So, I thought this toy box would work out perfectly! (And, it did!)

Not the best picture, but you can see the before (after I had sanded it) and the after. I painted the bottom of the toy box with chalkboard paint and then put foam and vinyl fabric on the top. I love this for a couple of reasons.
1. It adds storage.
2. It is on wheels.
3. It could be used for a center if needed.

A couple of weeks ago, I had a few of my team members over for a little lunch/crafting. We didn't finish our projects, but I did this week.

Some cork board string art. I thought I could hang this above my door... The paint is peeling pretty bad, so this will be a perfect cover up. I got a smallish cork board (I think 16x20) from Michaels. Painted it with gray paint. Then spelled out my name. The other girls did words like create and welcome. I haven't seen their final products yet... but it was fun!

So, that's about it... Ready to take more meds and crash! Meeting up with my new principal tomorrow... need to make a good impression ;)

Monday Made It.. Take 2

I finally got a little motivation to get some stuff done for school... although... as the hubs says, "You realize school doesn't start back for another month..." (You know with that look that says you are a crazy person). Ha... I guess I am a crazy person then! So I am linking up with Tara from 4th Grade Frolics for her fabulous Monday Made It!

I actually got ALOT of stuff accomplished this week for the home and the 2nd home (school)! I tried to go up to school, but my hallway is the laaasssttt to be cleaned..poo! So I stayed home and got some projects completed.
I got an amazing deal on a vintage buffet off Craigslist... only $80!!

So, I painted and distressed it! I love it!

Final look:

My project this week will have to include heading to Home Goods to start decorating the top of this thing!!

That little art piece above my new buffet... Yeah... I made that!

My sister and I started this project and then she kinda left me with it... Here is the one I made for her:

That's right... I made 2 sets! It was tedious but they turned out pretty cool! We started with 2 1x6 pieces of wood. We got Home Depot to cut them and then we stained them with some leftover stain I already had. It was an easy project just a little long! Took a couple days!

And now a few things for school:

Last year I used a clipchart (which was great), and the teacher next to me would carry around this stick all the time. It was such an easy way to use a clip chart, I had to copy! So she inspired me to create this:

I just used a regular old yard stick and painted my colors with some regular craft paint.

My last creation was a pinspiration....

I got my frames from Michaels $3.99/piece for 5x7 frames.

Love how these turned out!!

Ok... I think that is all for this week.... now.... must sleep!

Happy Monday!

Monday Made It

I have taken ALOT of time away... but I'm back!

There are some major changes going on in my school next year. An addition on our building, LOTS of new teachers, and a new principal... lots of change!! I am a very flexible with change... not one to normally stress out...but I have a feeling this year may be a little different. We have a lot of new teachers and many of them are coming to second grade. Four new-to-our-school teachers will be added to my team!

I'm trying to not think about all this until at least July, and so far I have done NOTHING school related (besides some tutoring on the side). But, today I actually started getting some stuff organized. I still have committed to myself I won't go in to school until July, at home there are a TON of things I can do!

So, I am doing my first link up of the summer for:

I really only made one thing this week and it was inspired by this pin:

This is adorably handwritten, but I made it a little more my style:

I plan on getting it printed LARGE and hanging it on my door with a cute border around it (hoping to cover a hole that someone punched in my door!!)

You can download this freebie if you "Like" me on facebook and Click on my "Fan Freebie".

Hope to have more for you soon! :) Happy Monday reading.... I think I am off to the pool!

monday made it and a sneak peek!

I have been working super hard this week on my classroom. Our school doesn't start until Aug. 1, but I am planning on vacation next week so I want to get all my organization done and over with! This week I will finish up... Here is a little sneak peek combined with my Monday made it:

These are fabric covered corkboards! I am loving them! I got the idea from this pin! I hung them right by the door for reminders.

So, I really, really wanted to go to IKEA and buy these amazingly cheap stools ($5.99/piece) for all my centers. So, I would need about 14 stools.

The closest IKEA is 4 hours away. No bueno.
Shipping from IKEA $40. Still no bueno.

Then I saw this in genius idea on pinterest. This bucket seat is made from a 5 gallon paint bucket, fabric,  stuffing for the cushion, and a staple gun! After I made 14 of these (with the help of my mom!), I still came in at $5 a stool. So, they were cheaper and totally worth it. If you want to see a step by step tutorial click here.

What I love most about these seats is they are small enough to slide right under center tables and they are stackable space savers!

I have decided to do my calendar a little different this year. I usually use one of those pre-made calendar boards and each day we  fill in the info that is pertinent. Instead, I am going to use this calendar. There is space to put post its about things happening in the classroom, pictures of upcoming birthdays, etc. I do still want to incorporate some kind of calendar math though. So, I plan on purchasing:

A friend of mine introduced me to this calendar math that you display on the screen. It has a ? of the day with money, time, and addition/subtraction practice. For only $20, I'd call this a bargain!
Here is a little sneak peak of some bulletin boards I got done this week. I used some wrapping paper from the dollar bin as the background on a few of these and really only got the bunting done. I need to get to work on the rest.

I'll be back at it again this week, until it all comes together! Check out everyone else's Monday Made Its:

monday made it!

I didn't blog at all last week. Took a short break from doing a lot of things...

I enjoyed pure summer- you know the kind when you wake up late and do as you please! Yes, that is summer!
Of course, this "laziness" (as some would call it... the hubs included) did come with some downfalls...

I had a tendency to run to yoga and I might have taken a few days off from the the y... Hoping to catch up this week!

I did get a lot of this done though:
Park Time!
Pool time! (And yes, my daughter is breastfeeding her doll... I couldn't help but take the picture! bahaha)
Yumminess! Cookie Brownies! Try them, you won't be disappointed!
Sister time!

Happy 4th of July! (Also a made it... how cute are these 2!)

By the end of the week I did start to get myself together. I didn't have a choice. There was the 4th of July and then my baby turned 4 on Saturday! I just can't believe how big she is getting! Some of my made it this week comes from preparing for her birthday:

Rainbow cupcakes with rainbow cake! These were a hit!

The Princess!

Her extra special flip-flop bows!
She had to have special flip flops because she got to get her very first mani/pedi!
Of course, after the mani/pedi and she put the shoes on, there was a realization that she couldn't actually see the toes because the bows were so big! She wasn't very happy with that!

So, we survived the birthday and I even got a little something done for my classroom. This was inspired by Alisha at the Bubbly Blonde Teacher. Last Monday she used some burlap in a way I never thought.

Paint it! Check it out:

I love this! I am definitely hanging above my writing center space. It was really easy. I actually made almost the whole thing while the kids watched Annie (a fave of mine). I cannot wait to hang this in my classroom...

In fact, I will be there this week.. preparing for the new year! I need to organize in a big bad way!

Hopefully, I will keep you posted this week... but... no promises!

monday made it: sunshine and glitter

I have been super busy keeping up with these 2:

This was so fun! If your public library does puppet shows.. go! Ours does a wonderful job!

Canoeing at Camp preview day... Almost counting down the days until Camp... Need a little break :)

It's been a month since we've been out of school.. He finally passed the swim test! Thank goodness!
So, now I can show you a few things that I got to work on today for school on:

I got a few things done today that I am going to need... eventually! Still putting off going back to my room so I am just getting a few things together to take up there.

First,

These are super easy to make! I mixed blue and green glitter.

What you need:
  • clothespins
  • glitter
  • small paint brush
  • mod podge
What to do:
  1. Pour glitter onto a paper plate.
  2. Use your small paintbrush to put mod podge on one side of the clothespin.
  3. Dip the side you put mod podge on in the glitter and set to the side to dry.
  4. After drying, re-paint your clothespins with mod podge. This will set the glitter so it won't fall off all year.
Super duper easy!

Next,

So usually I just use plain old clips or craft sticks for pick sticks but I saw someone made these for reading pointers and thought those are in genius for pick sticks.

1. Write names on sticks.
2. Put in cup with gems on top. (That one above will not be the one I use at school.. improvising at home!)
3. Pull a stick and call on that person.
4. Turn stick over so I can't see the gem... I also know not to choose that stick again!

Perfect, right?

Last,

Covered a pringles can with:
Got this gift wrap from $1 bin at Target! I got all they had left... Thinking a bulletin board is in order...
All I need to do is actually add the rulers... when I finally decide to go to school! lol

I also got these on clearance rack:
$4 a piece.. I got 4! Couldn't beat that deal!
So, that's about it for me today! I'm heading out to the pool and then hopefully checking out some other Monday Made Its when the kids give me another minute to myself again tonight!

Oh, yeah... One more made it....

I turned one of Addison's over sized t-shirts into this. Too cute!

Have a great rest of the day!
